Peace Out (or Not) Memories/Aloha Friday
The following video of a friend’s son after a trip to the dentist to have an extra tooth extracted has got me thinking about several things this morning:
Dentists, Mind altering substances, How documenting this kind of memory is at least as valuable, and more fascinating than another piano recital or school play.

So here’s my question for An Island Life’s Aloha Friday:
Do you have a memory you wish you had captured on video? (Go with a short, recent memory if you want – this is, after all, Aloha Friday, the day Kailani urges us to peace out.)
Here’s my answer: The entire year that Princess Sparkle was 3 she was all about wearing the same crinoline -lined bridesmaid dress every day, along with sparkly ruby red Mary Janes. One day we were in Wal-Mart and she spotted an ivory pair of sparkly shoes just like the red one’s in which her feet were currently shod. I made the mistake of saying, “Let’s just go look.” She had an ill fitting pair on in no time. When I started to help her take them off, she shuffled off towards the registers, with the too small shoes which were attached together with a plastic thread still on her feet. When I caught up with her she was right in the middle of the freeway of Wal Mart aisles. She dramatically heaved her body face down on the floor amongst the shopping masses, and kicked and screamed for what felt like 10 minutes. In my memory she seriously resembled a demented Shirley Temple.

Yes, whenever my toddler grandson comes over. He is so funny.

Yes. When we took our only family trip to Disney World. We went to the 3-D movie attraction. It was the first time my youngest son had ever been in a movie theater, let alone a 3-D movie. He was mesmerized. He was so excited he actually kept knocking off his 3-D glasses trying to reach out and grab the stuff he saw floating around. He was laughing and smiling and having the best time. I’ll never forget his reaction.

That clip reminded me of when my son had his first cavity filled. The dentist gave him Valium & about 30 minutes later my son proposed to me! I really wish I had that on tape.

The day my four-year old son decided to help with home improvement. We’d been talking about re-painting the front door, so he got out his tempera paints and painted the front door rainbow colors. We took a picture, but he says some pretty funny things. Wish we had video.

I wore a tutu over my clothes everyday for about 6 months.
Sometimes, you just gotta say no.

Absolutely! Lots and lots of them. Usually it’s something my kids have said or done or the two of them interacting.

Kids know exactly where to throw those fits… those moments cause me such stress. LOL…
I would love to capture some of the things my young son is always doing when no one is watching. He puts things down the heat ducts (like the phone) and then puts the lid back on like he has done nothing. He is 15 months old.

One day I ran out of diapers in the diaper bag. I went to get some more out of the closet. On my way back to the living room, I hear my son start screaming hysterically. I ran to see what was wrong and just about fell over laughing. About that time my doorbell rings. It’s my mom. She says “What in the world is going on?” I was laughing so hard I couldn’t tell her, so I just pointed to where my son was. He’s standing in the living room without a diaper on, he starts to pee, it scared him (he’s never seen himself pee before)so he shuts it off and starts screaming. He calms down because he sees he’s stopped. Then he starts peeing again, starts screaming again, stops peeing….and on and on. It was hilarious!!

Back in college we had these water guns that you wore on your head and aimed with an eyepiece. It was hi-tech with a speaker and everthing. When you yelled “FIRE!” it would squirt your opponent. Well, we played with them at like 3am and the other residents of the apartments were none too happy to be woken up thinking the complex was ablaze. But relieved all the same. Wish those folks’ reactions were recorded somewhere.

Yes, I have a lot more videos of my little guy. We captured him walking for the first time, but never did for my oldest. I wish I had more video of him when he was younger.

At the time it was not my idea of fun, but now I wish I had the birth of my children on tape.

My dau was about 18mos old .. she got very mad at me very quickly because I took an electronic toy out of her hand (she had it outside and that was a no-no) … she got SO mad that she lost consciousness. I was walking away at the time, I turned to see her mouth wide open like she was going to scream, it alarmed me so I went back to her and she feinted in my arms. She still has a wicked temper. I’d like her to see that no, it isn’t mom’s fault. You’re just dramatic like that.
