Sickening Aloha Friday

My day so far:

Day
has no clue
it’s Aloha Friday.
No reason to slit wrists,
Few words deliver the gist.
Princess Sparkle
can’t move:
Voluminous vomiting,
Bowls in queue,
Ongoing.
Still time
for day
to improve.
Labradoodle chews
a favorite shoe.
Water, not hot
the evil plot
of plumbers?

Today, I relate in a whole new way when Kailani of An Island Life says that “Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend.” With more anticipation than usual, Princess Sparkle and I look forward to the weekend. Somewhere out there, there’s the corner we’re supposed to turn.

So here’s my question:

What’s your best advice for dealing with a vomiting family member? Feel free to entertain or enlighten me. Yes mom, I’m calling the doctor.

  • patience. flat gingerale. and try not to loose your cookies while they do.

    good luck

  • Make sure the fever stays down.
    Sprite/7Up – small amounts at a time
Cook white/jasmin rice. Add just a touch of cinnamon & sugar. If she's holding stuff down, add a tad of milk. They'll eat it up and the rice is really fairly easy on the tummy. Or, white rice with just a tap of margarine, salt & pepper. It really helps.

  • YES! Flat Gingerale is an old family favorite of ours too! After the obvious things, (keep a barf bag close by, a wet washcloth etc.)then you just need top get out the blankies, get some good books and/or movies and cuddle up for the duration! Hope the ret of the weekend is better!

  • P.S. Please, please post a picture of your Labradoodle – I LOVE that breed of dog!!

  • Room temperature coca-cola or gingerale and plain soda crackers might help.

  • My daughter has Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, so vomiting in our house usually leads us to the ER within a few hours. I think the better question for us in my household is, what do we do to avoid the onset of vomiting at all costs?

I hope the days sorts itself out. What a bummer for Aloha Friday to get so botched.

  • I guess just lots of fluids–that’s the solution to everything at least in my house!

  • Be nowhere near carpet. Juice + water. Calm. Sounds like an awful day Shortstuff. I’m sorry :(

  • Midday update:I just talked to nurse at drs. office and she said to give her one ounce of water and wait an hour, then try another ounce, every 20 mins. A few ice chips are okay if she can keep it down.

Jaime, I’m definitely in danger of losing my own cookies. Looking at your avatar is bringing back memories.

Sheri, Made some rice and it’s ready to go, when she is. Other than this, Princess is doing great.

    Janetfaye, thanks!

Good heavens, Heather, I’ve never heard of Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome. Is that a real thing? After this am, I think she might have that!

  • My two year old had his first stomach bug this year and it was just awful – he really thought if he just went back to bed, it would go away, which if we let him meant he’d throw up in his bed probably. Poor kid just didn’t understand he couldn’t ignore it and couldn’t hold it in. I learned way too late in that game to keep a bucket nearby instead of carrying him to the toilet every 20 minutes…

  • Oh, poor baby (and mama!!) I always wanted Sprite/7up. I agree with the rice…just something bland. Chicken broth?

Also, pedialtye pops are good to help if she is really throwing up a lot (you don’t want her to get dehydrated!!)

Hang in there…this too shall pass :)

  • Poor Sparkle!! (and poor you!)
Sounds like you’ve already gotten some good advice, and hopefully she’ll be much better in the morning.
    Hang in there!

  • Get them into comfy clothes, snug and warm in bed with a vomit bowl and then leave… I cannot handle vomit.
Sorry I am of no help.

    Visit my Aloha Friday HERE!

  • Have the buckets ready…

Crackers and gingerale are good. And gatorade to keep electrolytes up.

    Poor kiddo (and mom!)

  • poor kiddo… haven’t had this problem, yet, so I don’t know what to tell you.

  • You've both got my sympathy/empathy. That said I agree w/ the flat coke/ginger ale/sprite & yeah, we've done the whole one ounce every hour thing.

Hope this too shall pass quickly!

  • I remember the flat ginger ale and flat sprite/7UP idea too.

  • By the way, I hope it all ends quickly. Stomach problems are the absolute worst!

  • Patience,,,,,

Is all I can tell you oh yeh and compassion… :)

  • My daughters eat apples when they nauseated. It really helps them.

  • hold her hair back while she pukes, cool wash cloth on the back of the neck.crackers, warm 7up stir out the bubbles. Lots of hugs! hopes she’s better asap!

  • Wash your hands. Give hugs despite lingering vomitroucious aroma. Wash your hands. Get fresh air. Give hugs. Wash your hands.

  • cover everything with blankets…..

    crackers

    REST!

    Linda

  • A really big bucket and lots of ventilation.

  • We’re alive and better this morning. No blowing chunks since 10 last night. This morning, she drank some water and fell back asleep. Thanks for all thoughts, advice and smiles. My hands are washed and I’m ready to feed the princess flat gingerale and do laundry for the foreseeable future – hopefully hot water is too :)

  • So sorry you have been stricken with sickness at your home. Hope your little one is better by now. We used Sprite and crackers best as I can remember.

Thanks for stopping by my site. Well good health returns to your home, stop by again. Blessings.

  • How's your little one doing? Is she feeling better (& hopefully it's not running through the rest of you!)

  • Become “The Bleachanator”!

  • Yikes! Hope she’s feeling better today. We have not had too much of that in our family yet (knock on wood!).
