Parties Make Me Want to "Shout"

by Margo on March 28, 2009

On my part, there were no implosions, major or otherwise, at last night’s party. I ate. I breathed. I danced. I had a “good enough” time that I was able to give my husband a less ambiguous, “I had a GOOD time.” My zipper on my go-to black dress held it’s cargo (rhymes with Margo – don’t see that often), even during quick music transitions. It was slightly dodgy when we went from Endless Love – which I admit I was so feeling – to that arms in the air, grown up frat party anthem, “Shout.”

My friend and I exchanged many knowing glances, and when we screamed witticisms to each other over the music, we did our best not to spit on each other. She informed me about my spice rack, and guided my use of a chopstick, the closest thing to a toothpick I could grab, to rid the space between my teeth of a wayward food stuff. I told you she was a good friend.

I went with the red shoes on the left, because of your feedback combined with the opinion of my live-in stylist, Princess Sparkle. While everybody else in the family runs away when I come clicking in the room in new shoes, PS carefully studies each detail of my wardrobe and voices her honest fashion advice.

She thought the more classically-styled red peep-toe pumps were more in keeping with my dress. I can also wear them to Christmas parties, she tells me. I don’t go to many Christmas parties, but maybe I can wear them with my pajamas to watch Pay Per View as I often do to mark the holiday season. Many years ago, PS gave me this gem when I was lamenting my wardrobe choices, “Mom, you can never wear too much black.” I know. I’m very lucky.

So as much as it pains me, the pink pair of shoes and nine of the ten necklaces are going back to Dillards. There will always be another pair of fabulous shoes. Or, more likely, flip flops. And I really love the necklace I decided to keep. Do you think it will look okay with jeans and flip flops? I can’t trust PS fully with this one, because she is 13, and I am not. PS could totally rock that look. On the other hand, I might look like I got locked up at the mall, and woke up to find myself 30 years older.

The only implosions witnessed anywhere in the ballroom were man-made, in the form of unselfconscious implant adjusting carried out by the women at the table next to us. This behavior was at its most charming as the bevy made their way off the dance floor en masse, and appeared to rearrange in unison. Four out of five had back tatts. When I went to the ladies lounge, the one with the smallest back tatt, deepest cut dress and biggest boobs, was sitting on the tile floor of the bathroom, attempting to stuff the annoying little ribbons that are under each armpit for hanging purposes, back into hiding. I don’t know – I found it kind of ironic. She smiled at me and laughed. In another time and place, I’m sure we’d be good friends. One of the her friends was wearing a dress that looked kind of like this:

The flaps on the dress this woman was wearing were longer and went to the floor, and if you can imagine, went up a little higher. Also, her dress was more low cut. It was kind of cute, but I couldn’t help thinking that she looked like part of a car wash. It would have been the greatest thing ever, if the band started playing “Car Wash” when they saw her. I might have that happen in a book some day. Anyway, it turns out, these dresses are known as Car Wash Dresses. I thought I was being so clever.

In other news, Lola of Lola’s Diner has given me this Friends Award.

The award description:

These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.

I am passing this award on to the following blogs:

Vic at What Were You Thinking?
phd in yogurtry at Coffee Yogurt
Mrs. G at Derfwad Manor at The Women’s Colony
Heather at Comparative Childhood
Amy at Margarita on the Rocks, Lots of Salt
Lilaphase at Lilaphase
Marie at Cpaphil Vintage Postcards

As a natural contrarian, who can’t help herself, I am not exactly following the rules. Can you tell how? Please know that with friendship, I feel there are no “musts.” All of these bloggers are people I’m happy to be getting to know, and would love to meet in person someday. Hope that doesn’t sound stalkeresque. Don’t worry! I don’t mean that I’m quitting my exciting, yet mundane life to come find you. Anytime soon, anyway. It would just be fun – you know?

Be sure to visit these blogs and the most generous, Lola. Thanks so much, Lola!

Awesome post! Love the boobs vs. hanger ribbon irony at the end…showing your hanger ribbons is just tacky! Also thanks for the award. Very cool. I will pass it on fo’ sho’.

This WAS a great post. Here’s my one-liners:

-Never, ever trust a teenager to pick out clothes for you once you are older than 30.

-When did Dancing With The Stars become the reference point for people looking for what’s fashionable?

Thank you for the award! That is really nice! And no, I don’t think you’re a stalker at all. Whenever one of us gets the chance to be less than say, 100 miles away from the other? We should try to meet up. I mean, I’ve driven from Michigan to South Carolina before and it is a dang far way to drive, you know?

Thanks for the award! You don’t sound stalkerish at all – I’d love to know you ‘in real life’. Who knows? Someday we could run into each other, accidentally or on purpose.

Glad you survived (and enjoyed?) your party. :)

I’m glad you had a good time and although I didn’t voice a vote beforehand, my vote was for the shoes on the left so good going with that! :)

LOVE love LOVE the red shoes.. totally agreeing with PS here. Nice choice. It sounds like a good time overall… I am glad you enjoyed yourself. =]

The car wash dress.. hard to imagine any shorter. Scary what people will wear and consider sexy.

Congratulations on the award too!!

I agree with the shoe choice, now that I know the others were pink.

As for the flap dress, to me it looks like a jelly fish.

And thanks so much for the award and shout out! You are so sweet!

Soon, soon, soon, I will get around to passing along your award. (I have more hiding away somewhere).
