In attempt to recapture the sublime pleasures of shopping therapy, most of which has been been lost in the suffering global economy, I share with you:
First Lusted after @:
Anthropologie store in Stony Point Fashion Park in Richmond, Va.when I was serving as fashion adviser to 13 year old daughter with birthday money burning a hole in her pocket
Virtually Superior Because: I was only required to mentally try on dress with potentially unflattering horizontal stripes. It looked great!
Meaningless Details:
Caranday Dress $178
Virtually Saved: $416
How about you? What aren’t you buying this weekend?

Mom, you’re so funny! I’ll pretend you’re wearing all of that stuff- it’s almost as fun as buying them! Very good idea!
Wow.. not sure I could have passed up Nearly Needlepoint Satchel for $90.. even with today’s economy. I really like that! =]
Such a clever idea!!!
OK, this is a game I could totally play – especially if I can look virtually cute in some seriously impractical clothing!
Cute post!!! Children are such money drains! but worth it. I am trying to save my $$$ for excellent trips!
Excellent! That’s for following!! I shall stalk you too!
This is a great idea. I will definately do it next week. I’m on a strict budget now that we got the new car so this will be helpful.
ps, thanks! I’m a huge fan of your humor and ideas as well. Love your new blog
Paula aka Zani, I’m having a bit of pass up remorse myself over that bag.
Molly, thanks! Are you still teaching? are you blogging again?
Fiona, I had a feeling you’d grasp the vision.
Hit40, excellent trips are my favorite thing in the world… even more than Anthropologie
WhisperingWriter, I feel for you with the new car. Whenever I get something big like a car or a sofa, I want new clothes to go with it

If I’m not buying it anyway, now I can not buy a size smaller, and thus, virtually lose weight, too – right?
Buying stuff …. ohhhh shoot!
I have had my hours cut at work, and have been living bare bones for a while now. I do not like it.
Ha haaaaaaaaa !!!!!!!!!!
I have lots of golf clubs, clothes on my wish list, but as I always “TRY” to be, I am happy with what I have. ((mostly))
Happy Easter weekend from SpeedyCat
peep peep !!
So funny! You have great taste in your non-purchases!
Oh this is an awesome idea! Retail therapy without the Morning-after regrets. love it!
That is so funny. Ok, I’m not buying that Caribbean Island I’ve wanted for so long! Now living on my own island would be therapy! LOL
)
Hi…how nice to see your little profile picture on my sidebar!
Love Anthropologie…I swoon over the clothes and then faint at the pricetags! ha-ha!
Great to meet you…I’ll be back!
What a great and fun idea!
I love that little dress!
I’m not buying Hot-cross Buns for Easter brunch because the grocery stores were all out of them and I didn’t think to place an order with the bakery downtown.
An award is awaiting you at A Novel Menagerie.com in the Sunday Salon post.
Lilaphase, in this land, we are all the same size we were in high school (or whenever
speedcat, recently I think we all appreciate what we already have a little more. My husband always wants another golf club. It’s like me and shoes.
phd yogurtry, Thank you. I’m going to go lie down now and imagine myself in them.
GND, definitely fun and guilt free.
sparky, that’s so sad. Everyone should have their own island. It’s written in the constitution
Betsy, great to meet you too. It sounds like you have your hands full… 15 yr. old triplets? I look forward to hearing about it
Wendy, thanks, glad you like it
Lydia, now I just have to be careful I don’t become obsessed with a virtual dress. Enjoy your Easter sans the hot cross buns. I want one!
Sheri, thanks!!
That purse is GORGEOUS. Now that I’ve seen it, I am “not” buying it either.
Le sigh.
After I saw your note, I said to myself, “Peacock, that’s the nickname I call myself, just for one weekend, don’t go clothes shopping.” I was behaving very well until 2 PM Saturday afternoon because all I could think of was go shopping. And I did. Sigh… Peacock failed.
what a unique way to look at shopping.. this really impressed me…..and made me laugh of course!
a rule of thumb i’ve tried to use for my kids is that i’d rather pay for experiences than things..

Lilu, it will be fun carrying our twin purses virtually throughout the blogosphere. won’t it?
carl, may I call you peacock? I hope you had a great Easter and consumed lots of chocolate
victoria, that is a wonderful thing to teach your children. thanks for stopping by
You are a hoot! Buy them all tomorrow. Hope you had a delightful Easter and thandk you for stopping by this morning!
Oh my gosh, you did save a bundle! I stopped even going into stores anymore to spare myself the pain.
I am NOT buying a new car because of the 0% for 60 months financing…
But I’m totally envisioning myself in one, and man…I look HOT!.
Thanks for following my blog! I really do appreciate that!
Hahahaa…you made me laugh this morning. You have a wonderful gift with words. I so enjoyed your blog today. (grin)
I have to say I love this idea. Shopping is my drug of choice and I have been known to OD on Anthropologie, in particular, a time or two. You and Sparkle have great taste, BTW! Is it unhealthy that I’m already thinking of how fun it would be to photoshop virtual outfits onto myself like paper dolls?
I am so not-shopping!! It saves on all that time returning things this way!
That, and the fact that I can wear slinky jersey material AND horizontal stripes in virutal land make this a win/win.
I love these posts! What a great idea… Get Mr Linky up, I have a closet-ful of ideas to contribute! Ciao and thank you so much for stopping by my blog. Ciao
MuseSwings, I bought them all, but when I opened my eyes I couldn’t find them! Hope you had a nice holiday.
blueviolet, Have I told you I had a great aunt named Violet? Going in the stores for real is always a bit risky. I’m going to one of my favorite stores for this Saturday’s post and I’m leaving the credit card in the freezer.
Sass, And you MUST have some sunglasses to match you and your cars hotness. I know just the pair.
Beth, Thanks so much! Glad you stopped by
Heather, I love that idea of playing digital paper dolls. If I could photoshop I’d definitely be doing that. BTW – I think I love the dress you’re wearing in your profile pic
Vic, and no losing the receipts! I’m even thinking of buying a BIKINI
Lola, I’m so glad you stopped by! I can’t wait to see what you will not buy
Eh, who am I kidding? I don’t even HAVE Photoshop. I have Microsoft Paint. It would looky super sloppy but it still could be fun to do the paper doll thing.
Thank you! That’s actually a dress from the 30’s. It’s my favorite and I adore it to pieces.
Um. I can’t BELIEVE how articulate your daughter is. It’s almost obscene how mature she is, really.
What I’m not buying…Where do I start? I’m not buying a car that doesn’t have paint peeling off it in sheets. I’m not buying a hair cut, even though this growing out mess is starting to resemble a mullet. I’m not buying every shoe that fits my size 5 foot in the Famous Footwear clearance section, even though the ongoing BOGO sale is calling my name. But in my mind I’m driving a fabulous convertible with hair that doesn’t go frizzy in the humidity and wind and wearing some really cute shoes with a backseat full of more of them. Money saved: more than I can count on my fingers and toes.
Heather Cherry, I think I’ll have enough fun with this without concerning ourselves with digital manipulation of ourselves. Thanks for befriending ps. She is truly a spicy and joyous creature to have around
(apparently she thinks it’s pretty low that I comment so much on my own blog)
Staci, I wear a 5 1/2! It’s like torture. You are a great non-shopper. xxx ooo
You just put a name to what I have been doing with all of my time. Brilliant!
so, with this virtual shopping I am declaring myself a size 8 (way, way small than my true size!)!!
