Welcome to my little game that I hope will partially fill the hole left behind in many of our formerly shopping-oriented lives. I believe you may find this exercise to be superior to mere window shopping. And if you fall off the wagon and literally buy something, not to worry. Tell us about that too, so others can catch a bit of the thrill while you were at it. And remember, you’re helping the economy!
To play, please grab the What I’m Not Buying this Weekend badge, located in my sidebar, or just use this link. Then leave a link to your post about a recent shopping experience with Mr. Linky, or tell us all about it in the comments.
I’ve always considered myself impervious to advertising. Perfectly reasonable, I base all shopping decisions on research relative to the importance of purchase. For instance, when deciding between Mabelline Great Lash or DiorShow Mascara, I will spend days perusing customer reviews on the internet. And when choosing a Kenmore or Maytag washer and dryer, I’ve been known to spend minutes skimming Consumer Reports.
I never allow my emotions to get involved. Unless I am actually am in a store, that is. Or something I want comes in periwinkle.
Or I am visiting a virtual car lot.
Since I planned for this weekend to be the weekend I’m not buying a car, as soon as I saw this beauty, I knew it was exactly NOT the car for me. I didn’t even need to take time away from my busy schedule of researching mascaras to NOT test drive my new ride.
Total price to NOT buy this 2009 Mercedes GLK: $51,000.
Virtually Superior Because: Gas, insurance, and nausea- inducing analysis of every detail not required. No galling friends who think you should buy American, or a Camry. Actually, these things are frowned upon and unnecessary. I am American, GREEN and proud of it, people.
Virtually Saved: Once I don’t pay the taxes and all, $43,000, because I did an awe-inspiring job NOT negotiating. Harvard Business School should NOT study me.
What about you? What are you NOT buying this weekend?

I believe that I won’t be buying that either. Of course, that’s why Harvard Business School is NOT including me in a study either.
Nice car. But I’m completely confuzzled as to why they took the Wanna Be Boyz in da Hood direction with the advertising. Doesn’t endear me to the brand one bit. No siree. Although, if I ever get rich as a bitch on Capri, I’d so go for one of those vintage Mercedes convertible coupes faster than you could say, “My Louboutins, please.”
Yeah, that picture quacked me up, too! Great post, Margo. I almost did my Lego car post for this meme but then again, I may be actually getting one soon. If so, I’ll post it as “What I DID Buy this Weekend.”
Cheers! And happy weekend!
I love you, what I’m not buying this weekend, series! It gives me a novel way to look at windowshopping. What fun! Just to look. My husband and I did just that on Thursday.
We did not buy the pond, metal shrubberies, stone benches, or the wonderful on-sale items we saw there. (Grin)
We had a wonderful, romantic trip, without spending a dime.
Mr. Linky sounds so…kinky.
I am not eating carrots this weekend so as to continue my part of this. I am eating apples. Burp.
Dang girl you have some great taste! i won’t be buying a car this weekend either but I need one soon! oh and I’ll email you my silly excuse for not participating this weekend!
Why do they think that putting the car in a run down neighborhood with make it look luxurious (sp?)? Maybe they think that it makes them look like cars for normal people who breath and have a job with normal pay, which may not be the image they should be going for sugessed by the price…
p.s. I’m so taking a joy ride in that not your car you don’t have with the license that I haven’t acquired yet.
Oh, I love love love periwinkle.
I won’t be buying a Clarity this weekend although I’m madly in love with it. GO HYDROGEN!
Bryan, we have many things in common!
moi, thanks. I’ll be by to pick you up later! Maybe I’ll not buy a convertible too. Thanks so much for playing again this week!
Heather, If you actually buy a car, heck yeah, you have to write about it! Sparkle has been talking obsessively all day about your bathing suit choices. I like your newest profile picture!
Beth, I’m so glad you enjoy the concept. It sounds like you had a nice time not shopping!
Pricilla, I’m picturing a guy wearing a gold chain, with a hairy chest and… I think I’ll stop there. Are carrots your favorite? I don’t want this to feel like Lent or anything for you
Fiona, you don’t have to email me your silly excuse! Just join in when you can. I have a feeling I’m going to love what you don’t buy one of these weekends
PS, where are my keys? I can’t find them! Where are you?
Robin, I hear you! Thank you for visiting!
Wendy, I’m pretty curious about the Clarity too. Maybe I won’t add one to my car collection sooner than planned
I never really liked Mercedes myself.I’m more of a BMW girl….which I won’t be buying this weekend either!
Left something for you on my post today; hop over and pick it up when you have time.
Jane
I’m (NOT) on a joyride in your (NOT) car with my (NOT) new clothes and (NOT) typewriter. *She says mischievously*
This isn’t all that fun, or funny, but what I’m not buying this weekend is vacation. Instead, I’ll join a health club w/ a great outdoor pool. It’ll cost the same but I can pay for it over time. Maybe the kids won’t notice they’re stuck at home.
thinkinfyou, I did not buy you the fabulous 6 series I spotted while I was looking for my new car. It’s YOU
Jane, thanks!
PS, I wondered where you were!
Dawn, Squint, call it “the country club” and you’ve got yourself a summer long vacation.
I am not buying any dignity. And I TOTALLY need some because I spent it all in NYC this weekend.
Lilu, I had no idea that dignity was something we can not buy! Great idea! I must try that. Details! Details!
