What I Did Not Buy this Weekend #1

I miss extreme shopping and I know I’m not alone! What did you not buy this weekend?

I believe you may find this exercise to be superior to mere window shopping. And if you fall off the wagon and literally buy something, not to worry. Tell us about that too, so others can catch a bit of the thrill while you were at it. And remember, you’re helping the economy!

To play, please grab the What I’m Not Buying this Weekend badge and use this link. Then leave a link to your post about a recent shopping experience with Mr. Linky, or tell about it in the comments. And be sure to visit the other participants!

This weekend, I Did Not Buy two things I would like to share with you.

Have you ever played the “If I won the lottery game?” I used to say the first thing I would do, after an obligatory verbal committment to give half to charity, would be to hire a full time maid and cook.   I love to cook, but much in the same way I like shopping – when I  don’t have to.

Because of ongoing technology issues, I would add this person to my staff:

Now that I think about it, I'd rather not buy shoes

Now that I think about it, I'd rather not buy shoes

When visiting a college campus this week with my daughter the admissions director described how each dorm not only had a Resident Advisor (RA), but a Resident Technology Advisor (RTA) to help out day or night should problems arise with the school issued laptops and campus-wide wireless service.

“A student can be sitting in the middle of the grass on a remote part of campus and have wireless service,” she exclaimed.

Most days I would settle for wireless service somewhere in my house.

What’s next on college campuses? On call colorists, microdermabraders and waxers for various hair and skin emergencies? Will each dorm have their own personal pizza man?

Since I Did Not Buy a personal on call technology geek, I was feeling a little deprived. I made up for it by not buying something either “human” or “digital”:

Won't they look great with my pajamas as I talk on phone with androids?

Won't they look great with my pajamas as I talk on phone with androids?

Gracious by Kate Spade, $329 at Zappos

Much more suitable than bringing a RTA into a volitile household.

How about you? What did you not buy this weekend?

I like what you read.
Shopping: I am a firm believer in “retail therapy”. There are countless strategies/behaviors we use to deal with stress and I find shopping (with some idea of what I want, but keeping an open mind for whatever pleases the eye) a safe and effective tool. I know eating, alcohol and, for some, drugs will do the trick, but those methods are often more costly.

Have a sunshiny week!

Good Morning!!! I just wanted to tell you that the code for the badge doesn’t seem to be working. I tried it a couple of times and all that shows up is a mini picture with a computer screen. Happy WIDNBTW!

Those shoes are going to look so good on you as you type away at your computer or talk on the phone :) I think it’s great that they have RTA’s now on campus. Buy a router…I couldn’t live without mine :) LOL

Viridian – I moved because of ongoing issues with blogger. they’re still going on! It’s like trying to get out of hell! I lost almost all subscribers again today- they are stuck at the old domain!

Thanks guys for stopping by and playing… I think you all are the few who are still with me through this. At least be sure you’ve entered to win the bracelet!

I really, truly love LOOKING at stilettos. I really, truly hate WEARING anything with more than a two inch heel.

So much for my fab young days.

I’m not buying an airplane ticket to New Zealand to escape our government just like Bill Gates already did. Maybe I could get a pair of shoes & matching purse to go with that trip? [lol]

Any chance I could get wireless service to my brain? That, I could use.

Okay, so what did I not buy? Err, well, I did buy a slinky tunic from Chico’s that even Barbara Bush would have spat upon. It looked horrific, and I’m taking it back. But this interlocutory purchase counts, yes?

Did not buy a misting unit for our back patio. Still want it. Still would like to buy it. But waiting for positive indicators of a personal economic nature. Been waiting for freaking months now. Also did not buy a pair of Birkenstocks. Expensive boogers that they are.
