What I'm NOT Buying this Weekend #7

Just when I thought I knew all there was to know about NOT buying stuff. Have I been living under a rock?

Polyvore.com which forever will now be referred to on this blog as Not Shopping Nirvana, is a marvelous place where both real shoppers and not, put together “sets.” Not only is there immediate access to all kind of great merchandise right on Not Shopping Nirvana, but after you set up an account, you can drag their thing-ma-wig to your toolbar.

Once the toolbar icon is in place, whenever you come across an item anywhere on the web, simply, “clip”, said item. Saved items from all across the internet shopping world can then, through the magic of drag and drop, be placed on a blank canvas. Items can be resized, rearranged and discarded until ready to “publish.”

I spent way too long letting my inner Anna Wintour rip, without spending a dime, or telling anyone they could stand to lose a few. Then just when I was feeling all proud of my “set”, I realized I had inadvertently shrunk everything down to the point where you couldn’t see whether something was a pair of pants or earrings. (Small hint: When it says “zoom in” and “zoom out”, it’s not just for the sake of your eyes .) I tried again and then I deleted my set by mistake after publishing, when trying to make a simple edit. (which to Margo Wintour’s horror was impossible.) But I’m a little spastic and you’re probably not. I think I have the hang of it now, and hopefully you can learn from my mistakes.

Click on my set to see for yourself. If you don’t want a new obsession, consider yourself warned!

Between this week’s exuberance for something that is the grown up equivalent of playing Barbie, and last week’s massive shopping cart of items not to be bought, you probably think I need an intervention. Let me know, okay? I can handle the truth. Please, please, please feel free to tell me I need to stop this NOT buying immediately.

Hope everyone is having a fabulous time not buying this weekend! Tell me all about it! What are you up to out there?

To play, please grab the What I’m Not Buying this Weekend badge, located in my sidebar, or just use this link. Then leave a link to your post about a recent shopping experience with Mr. Linky, or tell about it in the comments.

  • wow that looks awesome – I only spent a few minutes but i bookmarked it because I think I'll be heading back!

  • Nirvana here I come! I'm about to click on my new obsession.. My heart is beating faster and my fingers are shaking! I'll have you to blame for this!

  • You are right that Polyvore.com is Not Shopping Nirvana. I've used it too! It's fun. I've wasted many any hour there.

Hey, I see you've got 121 people who admittedly like you. Who'da thunk it? [giggle - roflol!!] JK You've got a great blog and well worth following. Glad others know it as well.

((Hugs)) Pal & pet Lily for me :o )

  • Uhm.. Please don't introduce me to any more of these time wasting websites..
I can guarantee that the next 5 hours will not be spent productively.. :/

  • I think you and the publicist have amazingly similar taste in clothes. Except now all the publicist gets to wear are icky goat clothes 'cause she is always taking care of goats….hmmmm.

the publicist knows of this polyvore because some people have kindly (or not so kindly)snatched her photos of her jewelry to use on the site. Some have been used in complimentary ways others have not.

  • Your not-buying habit is becoming an obsession. I think we need to stage a not-intervention immediately.

    I'll bring the tequila.

  • Sigh. I suddenly feel like my new jeans I did buy were not enough!

  • Any way they can let you know when your collection hits the clearance racks?? I mean, there's not buying, and not buying at RETAIL prices….

  • I did a lot of looking and no buying this weekend! I just do not want to part with my $$ for anything that is not perfect.

  • Thanks for not buying anything at Anthropologie for me. They had a big "SALE" sign outside of the shop yesterday and it was all I could do not to go in.

  • I found out about Polyvore last year and I was immediately obsessed with it. There are so many fantastic choices, I keep swapping one thing out for another and then another… and I never seem to come up with a finished set! So much fun!

  • omg, Margo…how could you give me ONE more way to spend more time online!! This looks way too fun. I am notorious for shopping (online & off) for hours and then taking everything out of my cart one by one, convincing myself I don't need it or it will go on sale or whatever I can come up with to NOT buy anything. Apparently, I am not alone!

  • I think that people are just not blogging on the weekend now that it's summer! It's hard to get a blog event going when it's between sitting in front of a computer or by the pool:) Traffic on my blog is sooo DEAD on Saturday and Sunday!

  • you are so funny, you make me giggle- I must join this growing tribe of restrained buyers with good taste…have a super day!!

  • thanks for all the responses everyone! I hope you all had a marvelous weekend not shopping. I sure did :) Marie, I'll email you. Whatchall think about me moving this gig to Mondays?
