Please Don’t Feed The Alligators

Huntington Beach State Park

This is a postcard. If I got this close, I wouldn't be here to tell about it.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday from Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Wish you were here. I saw almost as many alligators as I did people (less than 10) on my jaunt this morning, even though the campground is booked for the holiday weekend.

When I was deep in the maritime forest and started to think the trees were about to throw apples at me, I was glad I didn’t see any alligators. Tree roots that looked like snakes were exciting enough, thank you.  Never claimed to be a Girl Scout.

Kindest Regards,  Margo Dundee

Here’s a description of the park from their website:

The park’s freshwater lagoon, salt marsh, maaritime forest and beach are outstanding examples of the state’s natural coastal environment. These also provide such prime habitat for birds that the park is widely recognized as one of the best birding sites along the East Coast. Surrounded by some 2,500 acres of native flora and fauna, the park offers many observation decks and walking trails to further enhance your enjoyment.

They more more like roid veins. I didn’t know nature was on HGH. Guess there weren’t enough people celebrating Earth Day this year…

I am glad you jaunted. I think alligator would like goat so I would stay away from there…

Oh I’m *really* glad I don’t live anywhere with savage beasts! :) Postcards are about as close as I would want to be.

Next time you go for a jaunt, bring a couple of thawed turkeys along, to throw to the gators while you run the other way. :)

I would love to see the birds around there too. I never thought of SC having gators. I thought we were the only ones! :) I have seen many this week as I have been driving across “alligator alley” through the everglades several times this week. I will not slow down for a photo though…not yet anyway. :0

Hmm – it looks buggy. Is it? Otherwise, exotic to a westerner!

Gators! Great postcard.

With roots like that my eyes would have to be on the ground all the time. Otherwise I would wind up flat on my back. (I’m not know for my grace or coordination)

Hi Margo, I had a similar experience in Everglades national Park down in Florida about 9 months back. We got pretty close but they were dozing in the hot sun. I like your postcard! :)
