Feel Better Now Hot Toddy Recipe

After spending endless hours in the Life in the Short Lane test kitchen, I provide you with a recipe in follow-up to my last post. Consider it my special gift to you. Perhaps it will prove useful during the cold, flu and relatives-who-will-not-leave season:

Virtual Grandma’s Feel Better Now Hot Toddy

1 oz. brandy, whiskey or whatever the heck you’ve got in the house unless  it’s something like strawberry mango rum.  Now that I think about it, strawberry mango rum may be just the cure. Whiskey is considered the most “macho” choice which in my mind equates most “God awful.” I like the hottoddybrandy.

1-2 Tbsp honey

1/4 lemon

1 cup hot water

1 tea bag

cloves or cinnamon stick, if desired

Preparation:

Coat the bottom of a mug or Irish coffee glass with honey. Add the liquor and the juice of the lemon quarter. In a separate mug, prepare hot tea with boiling water. Pour the steaming tea into honey coated mug and stir. Add a cinnamon stick or lemon slice embellished with cloves.

Warning: You may find yourself speaking a foreign language even if you don’t know one.

à votre santé!

In a weakened state, I’m sure this would put me over the edge. Yes, I’m a light weight. Although, I might just have to try it. Maybe with Mr J’s vodka?

Great recipe. I will stash the ingredients in a corner of the fridge for those days ahead. Thanks.

I’m thinking I’ll try that tonight. Not that I have anyone in the house who won’t leave, except the kids. Who live here.

I think just smelling this would make me giggly and then socially inappropriate.

How are you? I miss you, even though I’m the one that’s been off gallivanting/working.

I am impressed with the lemon wheel dotted with cloves. I do declare, that be mighty fancy.

But I’m with Lilly. I’ll try it with vodka. Or tequila. Or maybe Praline Liqueur.

I am going to have to give this recipe a try. My mother used to drink it at the holidays when we were kids, she doesn’t anymore though. I wonder if she lost that taste for it or if she just doesn’t like it. I’m definitely going to try it. :)

OMG Whiskey is the Worst!! Yucky. But if it makes you feel better… it can’t be that bad. ;)
